The everyday problem

A registration team completes its queue, but billing cannot use the record because the insurance information is incomplete. The first team sees finished work; the second sees a new exception. Looking only at queue volume hides the gap between these two views.

A practical approach

Define readiness from the receiving team’s perspective. List the fields, documents, and decisions that must be present before a record moves forward. Give incomplete work a visible destination and an owner rather than allowing it to disappear into an informal email exchange.

Try this with your team

Take five fictional registration records through the handoff. Ask the receiving team to identify what prevents action, then revise the completion checklist.
